Due to heavy rains passing through the area this week, work on Farm-to-Market Road 249 (Main Street) in Atlanta will be completed on Tuesday, Jan. 31, requiring the highway to be closed once more.

Union Pacific Railroad workers will close the highway to traffic to finish making repairs to the railroad crossing. Main Street was closed last Tuesday for the repair work.

Portable message boards have been placed near the railroad crossing, to warn motorists of the scheduled road closure. Traffic will be detoured onto State Highway 43, SH 77 and FM 251, but motorists are free to find other alternate routes. The construction schedule and road closure can change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen problems.

Anyone having any questions about the road closure, detour routes or construction work can call the TxDOT Traffic section at 903-799-1484 for more information.
