Packed parking lots offer signs of ‘cha-ching’
If early morning crowds at Longview big box retailers were any indication, the black Friday kickoff to Thanksgiving weekend shopping should be at least a decent day at local cash registers.
At the city’s Super Wal-Mart, Fourth and Loop 281, the jam-packed parking lot was flowing over to Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s and Outback Steakhouse. At Target, a police officer estimated the crowd lined up about 5:30 a.m. for the 6 a.m. opening at about 250 people — and growing as more cars streamed into the parking lot.
The Longview Mall around both JC Penney and Sears, which both opened early, had a lots of cars and at Toys R Us, Circuit City, Best Buy and Old Navy, parking spaces were filled up. A tent was pitched in front of Circuit City and one of those waiting in line at Best Buy brought a barbecue grill.
I’m not sure what all those customers were spending once they got inside, but they must of had some heavy duty shopping in mind to get up and wait in line at those insane hours.
