Dancing With the Stars
Dancing with the Stars is a contest featuring area students dancing to the hits of the 40's to raise funds for Where Were You in '42?, an intergenerational program benefiting the Heritage House Senior Citizen Center. Students are paired with a local "celebrity" and provided lessons in the ballroom dance of their choice. The event provides an evening of entertainment while helping to raise funds for the program.

Hey, this is Scott Brunner at news-journal.com. there’s been some concern about the voting. we’re going to be getting the dress rehearsal videos on here in the next week or two. I think what I’m going to have to do is reset the poll results and start over after we post the new videos. What does everyone else think?

The couples have ALL worked really hard to learn their routines … hope everyone will keep that in mind and not let numbers get in the way! This event is to raise money for a great group of kids … we want everyone to have fun and feel good about their part in the project.

I think that is a great idea Scott. This competition is for fun and benefits an amazing organization. I personally would like to thank the Longview News Journal for all of their support with this project. They have helped in so many ways that even I can’t think of. Abby and I are having a blast with our jive and would like to thank everyone who is supporting us.

Why vote at all? Just put up entertaining videos for people to watch. Basically the only people voting are friends and family and those that know how to trick the system and do multi votes per hour. ALL the newspaper’s voting contest, ie. best pets, etc. are like that. We don’t need to vote to appreciate the dancers hard work. The dancers get stressed trying to get their friends/family to vote more. It doesn’t help them dance better.

The newspaper has been more than generous with their promotion of our project … the numbers/voting is just for fun. Yes someone has evidently figured out how to beat the system … was ever thus! My students are not about to let that stop them from having a good time! They greatly appreciate the paper and the local celebs for supporting them.

Hey everybody, we are one week away and to tell you the truth I’m excited. Everybody has been working really hard to polish all of their steps and put on a good show for all of you. The competition between all of us is increasing dramatically and no one knows what will happen next in this ongoing struggle to take the trophies home. Students have been making facebook groups to gather support for themselves and stars have talked to everyone that they know to come support them. However, there have been a few struggles. Stars are frantically trying to find an outfit to match the character of their dance, students working day in and day out to get publicity for the show. However, Abby and I have had a little problem of our own. Unfortunately, I caught a little bit of a bug at the beginning of the week and have been trying to shake it ever since then. Although we didn’t let that stop us from practicing on Tuesday with Sal. Hopefully, the new videos should be coming out in a day or so and there should be an article in the paper tomorrow. I expect to see all of you at the show next Saturday to support your favorite couple. Again I would like to thank all of you who have supported Abby and I. See you next Saturday!!!

Well its another week closer to the Dancing with the Stars. I have sat in on a few dance practices and let me tell you, the kids are great. Yes, the partners are all in step with each other and are ready to go. Hard work has been going on for a long time and I think that everyone is a winner in my book. This is for a great cause, that is what it is all about. If it weren’t for fine young kids and hard adults where would this program be? Yes Mrs. Barrett has just as much fun with the group and it does take time away from other things that she could be doing. Sal is a fun teacher but is working the group hard to bring entertainment to Longview and raise money for a great cause. With a clean voting record started lets vote for our favorit couple and may the best couple win.

Congratulations to all of the Stars and their student partners, you all look wonderful!!! I hope everyone has bought tickets to see this amazing group of young people and their leadership team put together a show that you won’t forget and will be forever grateful that you attended. The Stars are to be commended on their die-hard enthusiasm and commitment for such a worthy cause. My hat is off to all the students that make this program possible and most of all to their wonderful teacher, Terri Barrett. Without her none of this would be possible!!! Sal too, your the best!
