Dancing with the Stars is a contest featuring area students dancing to the hits of the 40's to raise funds for Where Were You in '42?, an intergenerational program benefiting the Heritage House Senior Citizen Center. Students are paired with a local "celebrity" and provided lessons in the ballroom dance of their choice. The event provides an evening of entertainment while helping to raise funds for the program.

The entry titled "Updated videos, poll resest," and any of the comments about it.
We’ve posted the second practice/dress rehearsal videos. The poll has been reset to reinvigorate the friendly competititon. Check them out, and get ready for the final performance this Saturday.
I have been watching some of the rehersal videos and the dancers are amazing. Its amazing how people that have never danced in there life have the courage to even go up and dance infront of a huge audience. The show is going to be great, so if you have time go out and watch it!!!!.
The videos on the site look great! It looks like everyone is working really hard! I don’t think i could get up and go dance in front of everyone like that. I want to wish every team good luck and i hope to get to come see everyone dance!
The dance rehearsal videos are very good and it looks like the dancers have been practicing hard. I dont think i would be able to do that becuase i know that i would mess up. The show looks like it is going to be awesome.
These videos of the dance rehearsals were fantabulous!!! That’s a compound word for fantastic and fabulous. Are they going to have live music? Because if you are I could possibly help by playing the drums. Just give me a sample CD and I’ll try my best to replicate the drums part. BREAK A LEG OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MRS. BARRETT IS THE BEST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(do i get extra points?)
I watched the videos and they are really amazing. I think it is admirable that these people can do what they do and excel at it. The hard work is paying off. Keep up the great work. This looks like it’s going to be awesome.
It’s amazing how much effort and dedication the students have to perform the show to their best ability, yet stay on top of school. They’re simply amazing, giving up their free time to perform a show for our entertainment. I’d just like to say good luck to all the dancers this weekend.
You know watching the videos at first I was surprised at the dances each couple chose knowing the students. Except Carmen she was bound to do a latin dance. MRS. FIERCE!!!! You guys have improved so much and I do hope if im not working i get to come and see you guys bc it was just a great thing to watch. Im proud of you guys. WAY TO GO
I was watching Bartolo and Stacy’s rehersal practices and it looks like the two of them are having a really good time. It looks like they have come a long way and have grown a great relationship together. Summing up the excitement and intensity the couple has going, it looks like it is going to be a great show. I can’t wait to go to the show and see what the couples have been practicing so hard for!
I just got done watching the videos and I am simply amazed at the progress that each of the dancers and the stars accompliched and I look forward to watching them dance Saturday night. Anyways Mrs. Barret and everyone that has worked to get this program going have done a wonderful job, or you could say fantabulous. Hey who is this Marvin kid he sounds like a suck up to me I mean Im kind of sucking up too to get a grade too but he when too far.Jk Marvin.
The Longview News Journal has been a great sport in portraying the Dancing With the Stars for Pine Tree. They have done so much for Mrs. Barrett and the dancers. The videos as well, edited so well, and so professional. Great job guys!
You guys are doing a great job at this dancing stuff! I wish you all the best of luck. Hopefully I could have the honor of participating in this gracious event next year. I am crossing my fingers Mrs. Barrett doesn’t harm me too much before then. Good luck, break a leg, and think of me while you are dancing! O.k. you don’t have to do the last part.
I think that Dancing with the Stars will be an AWESOME BLAST! The dancers have made greater progress so far (and hopefully will continue to do so) and i hope that the event on Saturday will be a whole lot of fun!
I wished i had stayed in Where Were You in ‘42 if i had a better dance partner. I always loved to dance nonstop that at high school dance formals, i was the King!
I say to the most lovely beautiful teenage high school woman in Pine Tree High School: “Shall we dance?”
Hopefully, if I wanted to and if I re-joined and then stayed in Where Were You in ‘42, then I’ll be in Dancing with the Stars next school year! I’LL BE BACK!
To the most beautiful teenage Pine Tree High School woman: “I love you my dear sweet lady, so shall we dance in pure love?”
Hello I’m Sal Landeros. I’ve been working with the personal of dancing with the stars. We have had a lot of laughs during our practices. The Stars and the Pine Tree kids have come along way and work very hard to put on a great show. Its great to see the community and kids work together toward a goal, so come and support the stars and kids on March 29, 2008 at First Christian Church at 720 N 6th Street Longview Texas. I would like to thank Mrs. Terry Barrett for giving me the opportunity to work with the Stars and kids. Again thank you for your time, and if you come to the show you will be glad you came out for the evening. As a dance instructor it makes me happy to work with such wonderful people.
Sincery,
Sal Landeros
National Ballroom Champion
Dancing with the stars is a wonderful project because the students and stars have a fun time while they are raising money for the Heritage House Citizen Center in Tatum !!! The stars also have the opportunity to learn a few new steps and impress the wives or husbands !!! We should feel proud that in our community we have people who care and do something about it !!!!! :)
i love dancing with the stars, i am not in it, but the people in it say its awesome and great fun! hopefully next year i will join but not sure. All of the dancers are great and look beautiful!! And the person that did it all… MRS. BARRETT!!! I LOVE YOU!!! :)
Sooo…I’m a little confused. How is it possible for one couple to jump 323 votes in the course of an hour and 28 minutes? I wish I had that many friends to vote for me all at the same time
It just seems a little…shall we say…questionable to me.
My name is melissa Chandler. I am a student at Pine Tree High School. I watched the videos of all the groups performing in Dancing With the Stars and I think that Carmen Garza and Kerry Hill are my favorite. They are doing a great job with their routine. I love the intensity and attitude that is put into the dance. There is no doubt in my mind that they cannot pull this off. Good luck!
my name is Lynzee Spencer, and dancing with the star takes dedication and determination. something you have to have to learn such a difficult dance with someone you just met.and we owe it all to MRS. BARRET!!

Wow..I think all of the couples have a chance of winning after watching those videos… I really enjoyed the way Carmen Garza and Kerry Hill connected to each other throughout the dance but I also think the most fun dance would be the one with Noelquis Rodriguez and Jarred Heath. That latin music really makes you want to move!

I absolutely can not wait to see Dancing with the Stars on saturday! I know that everyone is really going to enjoy it. All of the couples look like they are having so much fun and they all look really great. If it were up to me I would say that they all deserve to win! But I just want to wish everyone goodluck :)
Hey everybody, now I would call this the final countdown because we only have one more practice. Everyone dances are looking great, but I believe that Abby and I can take them. Saturday night will be full of fun, excitement, and laughter. Everyone that comes will have an amazing time and will enjoy every minute of it. We will have open dancing for the audience to participate, so everyone bring your dance shoes and get ready to strut your stuff!! Tomorrow, each pair will have a dress rehearsal and then we will all go out to eat at Papacitia’s, a big thanks to Danny for setting it up, for a night of relaxation. All of the stars have been awesome. They give all of their free time to practicing and doing whatever they can to help in the behind the scene things along with the Leadership class. This is a huge commitment and they have given every free moment to this project. I would like to personally thank them all for their friendly attitudes, hard work, and wackiness that they have brought to every practice. Also, Sal has been a huge part of this show. We cannot thank him enough for all of his help. I expect to see all of East Texas at the performance to show their support for our stars. Abby and I just wanted to tell the other pairs - BRING IT ON.
Bartolo and Ms. Stroud make it look like it would be fun. He makes me regret not signing up, the suit that Bartolos wearing would make me look sharp too. I bet it takes a lot of practice and hard work. Good luck Bart and Ms. Stroud, I love you Ms. Barret.
After seeing the videos I kinda regret not signing up for it.
But, it’s going to be a close competition.
I think it is going to come down to the one that makes the least mistakes.
The dancing with the stars team looks insanely skilled. I enjoyed the videos a lot. The dancing looks great and I hope that you perform spectacularly on Saturday. This event was a genius idea and I’m sure it’s extremely entertaining for the participants as well as the viewers. Good luck.
