Rising female inmate population
On any given day seven years ago, about 60 women were in Gregg County’s jail. Today, that daily average is about 175.
Daily female jail population has grown in surrounding counties, as well. Rusk County officials, for example, have approved a $14.5 million jail expansion in part because their jail is holding more women than in years past.
Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano and other officials point to one primary cause: substance abuse.
Do you agree with the sheriff’s take on the rising female inmate population? Is more accommodation for female inmates needed?

Sweet Lord Marlene, Please tell me you purposefully wrote that hideous note to accentuate the ignorance of the criminal population. If not then I am sure you will make yourself a reservation at the courthouse soon enough. I wish I had more time to make fun of you but I have to work in the morning, I have a whole welfare system to help support.
