Local, state officials support student fitness
Four in five Texas school kids are out of shape, state leaders said Tuesday.
The Texas Education Agency spent $2.5 million in 2007 for a first-of-its-kind series of tests to measure the aerobic endurance, body fat, flexibility and muscle strength of the state’s nearly 2.6 million students in grades 3 through 12.
What are your thoughts on the state’s results?

In a world full of parents who have little time to cook healthy meals for their children and instead opt for fast food, it is no wonder our children are increasingly obese and out of shape. Plus, we are unfortunate enough to live in a society where keeping our children indoors and on the XBox is safer than letting them play outside where predators have been known to snatch them from our very backyards. TEA shouldn’t be too awfully shocked given these factors.
