Clean Water Restoration Act
GILMER — The Upshur-Gregg Soil and Water Conservation District says a proposed water pollution law would infringe on landowners’ right to private property.
The group approved a resolution Wednesday opposing the Clean Water Restoration Act, which would amend the Clean Water Act of 1972.
The Clean Water Act of 1972 makes it a crime to pollute “navigable waters of the United States.” The Restoration Act would replace the phrase “navigable waters” to say “waters of the United States,” which includes lakes, rivers, streams, mudflats, wetlands, sloughs and natural ponds, according to the bill. It would impact public and private property.
Do you agree that the resolution would infringe on landowners’ rights?
