Longview High 8-period days
Brianna Bradford says she’s wary of class period changes at Longview High School as she prepares for her senior year.
“I think it will have it’s good side, but more of it’s bad side,” Bradford said, “but we’ll just have to see as school goes along.”
Principal James Brewer sees nothing but positives with his plan to extend the school day by 12 minutes and add an extra class period. He announced in late June that Longview High School’s seven-period day will be extended to eight periods in the 2008-09 school year. Daily, classes will begin at 8:05 a.m. for most students — students taking college dual credit courses begin at 8 a.m. — and the final class will end at 3:45 p.m.
What do you think of the change?

Eric, to you correct you, I would have to say any “great decisions in the last 50 years”. The latest greatest boo boo is the Satterwhite Tax Increase, spending this money will do nothing to increase the quality of the education LISD provides.

8 classes is ridiculous. When I started in 94, we had 7, then went to the 4-a-day block schedule. That was a better choice than doing all 7 in one day. It split up the homework load each night. When I found out they stopped the block scheduling, I thought “why???” To me, it worked, why mess that up? But, then the LISD administration hasn’t exactly made great decisions in the last 10 years.
