Leash laws

An Elderville woman and her neighbors are asking Rusk County commissioners to create a leash law for their portion of the county, prohibiting neighborhood and stray dogs from wandering the area without a leash.

Rusk County does not have a countywide leash law because counties are not allowed to enact that kind of law. Counties might have jurisdiction to enact leash laws in unincorporated subdivisions and communities, according to County Judge Sandra Hodges.
