Proposed newspaper changes
The news staff of the Longview News-Journal wants to know what you think about our newspaper - the good, the bad and the ugly.
We’re recruiting readers for feedback sessions on proposed changes to the newspaper to be held Aug. 5 and 6. The sessions will last about 1 1/2 hours and participants will receive an incentive for participation. For more information or to sign up, call Judy Stratton at (903) 237-7754 or e-mail her at jstratton@longview-news.com.

On another note, consider that the New York Times recently reported an 82% drop in second quarter profits. That didn’t happen because all those fine Manhattanites are feeling the economic pinch, but because the Times has for too long put their liberal ideology above profits. Give them credit for sticking to their guns, if that’s how you view it, but people don’t want ideology. They want truth and integrity, and they will say so with their subscription dollars.

The News-Journal is a fine paper in most every aspect. However, the area where it needs the most help, in fact, a complete overhaul, is in balancing the political ideology of the paper. The LNJ is a Cox paper, which means it leans heavily leftward. The average ratio of liberal to conservative opinion pieces on the op/ed page is 2:1, and almost every editorial espouses a view that is at odds with most East Texas residents when it comes to all things political.
If a change toward attaining proper balance and eradicating liberal bias is the goal, the LNJ will be a paper I will be proud to read and subscribe to. Otherwise, it’s just another rag.

Longview is fortunate to have one of the best newspaper in the state of Texas and possibly the South. I can’t see any area that they need to improve. Don’t change a thing. Keep up the good work. Are you going to endorse Obama?
