Hallsville ISD to purchase $2.6M of land
The Hallsville Independent School District plans to pay almost $2.6 million for about 119 acres of land for its new high school and elementary campuses, according to information the Longview News-Journal obtained through an open records request.
According to the contracts, the district plans to pay about $1.6 million to four property owners for about 92 acres for the high school campus. The land is north of U.S. 80 in western Hallsville, slightly northeast of the Cider and Cal Young roads intersection.
The new campuses are part of a $96 million bond package Hallsville voters approved in 2007.
District Superintendent Greg Wright said the district’s priority was to find land north of U.S. 80. The locations of the district campuses south of U.S. 80 has led to quite a bit of congestion on FM 450, he said. The locations of the new campuses will allow the district to alleviate some of that congestion while remaining in the city limits and near city sewage and water lines.
What do you think about the land purchase?

AMAZING Are our Trustees rubber stamping this Superintendant’s desires to break this tax base? “Free” medical care to HISD employees to the tune of $185K, $70K to teach our teachers how to teach the TAKS! No wonder he didn’t want to release this info. Couldn’t a litter bit better deal have been negotiated? Trustees should be put on notice, we are watching…

Sounds reasonable. Almost $22,000 per acre for undeveloped land. Now that’s what I call being frugal with taxpayer’s hard earned money.
