Employee insurance costs to increase
Victim to soaring health care costs, Upshur County is changing its health insurance plans: employees will pay more out of pocket for medical care than a year ago, County Judge Dean Fowler said.
“Health care costs are rising 17 percent annually,” Fowler said. “The county is absorbing all of that unless we change the rates some.”
Upshur County spends between $1.7 million and $1.8 million annually on employee health insurance and will save about 6 percent, or about $100,000, by changing its rates, Fowler said.
The increases go into effect Oct. 1.
