Ordinance targets vacant buildings

In an effort to maintain downtown Henderson’s buildings, a new ordinance will require owners of vacant structures to stay in compliance with city fire codes.

Henderson City Council members approved an ordinance Aug. 26 that would require vacant buildings in the historic district to be inspected by the fire marshal.

The historic district, which encompasses the downtown area and some historical houses, is home to many structures that date back to the late 1800s.

Council members will conduct a second reading of the ordinance Tuesday.

What do you think about this proposed ordinance?
