Employment difficult to find, evacuees say: Wednesday
Earnestine Maxie and Alicia Brown each worked multiple jobs back home near the Gulf Coast. Ricky Freeland and Jim Swift have jobs waiting on them, but neither has a car.
They are among more than one dozen coastal residents who have camped out since Thursday at Mobberly Baptist Church. Many have learned that their homes are damaged and without power because of Hurricane Ike or that they’re not being allowed back into their hometowns.
Roland Johnson, area director for Texas Workforce Solutions in Longview, said Tuesday that his office is seeking inquiries from local employers who need temporary help. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, employers responded with an outpouring of jobs, but things have changed three years later.
Do you have temporary jobs for evacuees? Let us know.

Stephanie, Why don’t you move to another city? You should leave all your belongings behind. If you have a job you can leave it, and your kids can leave their schools. Then you will be an evacuee and you can get help too. Just a thought. Frazier

It is hard enough for Longview residents to find employment. I am a Longview resident and I had a tree fall on my house. I am currently homeless. I called around for rent houses and all of them had already been taken by evacuees. What about the residents of Longview who are displaced? Nobody is trying to help us.

If I lived near the coast I would have a travel trailer stocked with non perishable food, especially if I had lived there for three years since the last storm. Then just before the hurricane is scheduled to hit(they are scheduled and never a surprise except to the grasshoppers that are not prepared as we ants are) But then again I am an independant person who does not depend on the charity of others to survive. Maybe evolution should reward my kind. As your christian faith supports the rest. God helps them who help themselves.

I’m appalled at people who denigrate others who are in trouble without knowing individual circumstances. That is not a Christian attitude. Remember…”There, but for the grace of God, go I.”

Nearly every business you go into there is a help wanted sign in the window so anybody that wants a job in E.T. should be working. They are waiting for a handout if they can’t find a job.
