Gohmert rails against Wall Street bailout plan
KILGORE — A financial reprieve to bailout Wall Street has propelled the United States toward a crash course with socialism, U.S. Rep. Louis Gohmert said Thursday.
Gohmert, R-Tyler, delivered his message to dozens of Kilgore Lions, Kiwanis and Rotary club members at the Meadowbrook Country Club, bashing the $700 billion bailout plan President Bush signed into law Friday.
The bailout gives the government broad authority to buy bad mortgage-related investments and other distressed assets from faltering financial institutions.
Do you agree with Gohmert on the bailout?

Bush almost tripled the National Dept in his 8 years in power, and his and Reagan’s economic policies all but broke the Country. And those two wars and two occupations are costing us tens of billions every single month. 9-11 happened on the Bush watch. Bin Laden is still free somewhere in Pakistan over 7 years later. The shredding of the Bill of Rights happened on the Bush watch. Now we find that they were listening to regular soldiers phone calls back home to their love ones. But hey, Exxon is doing real good. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Scott Brunner,
The headline says “Gohmert predicts victory for Obama”. In this case, “predicts” is the verb.
Then, in the passage you point out: “U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert believes Democrats are poised to take the White House and strengthen majorities in the House and Senate on Nov. 4.” This also has a verb, “believes”.
“Believes” is not the same as “predicts”. Certainly, he understands that there is a good chance that Democrats can gain in this election. According to Mr. Isaacs, Representative Gohmert “believes Democrats are poised” to do that. “Are poised” makes no predicion of an outcome. It merely defines a position.
What you give as evidence of the Congressman’s prediction, if true, is actually an analysis of the political field this year, and not a prediction.
So, not only is there nothing in the article that demonstrates that Louie Gohmert “predicts” this outcome, but there is no evidence that he “believes” that this will be the outcome as asserted in the headline.
Not that I’m skeptical, but what, exactly, did Representative Gohmert say that made Jimmy Isaacs think this was true?
I’m sure it makes a better headline to say the Congressman said something completely out of character. And if you can back it up, it makes a better story, but you failed to do that.

applebutter,
maybe you missed it, but we had a newer story in the Friday, Oct. 17 edition. you can find it by clicking HERE.
here’s the second paragraph: U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert believes Democrats are poised to take the White House and strengthen majorities in the House and Senate on Nov. 4. The economy is his reason.

I missed the part where Louie Gohmert predicted that Obama would win. Maybe I’m just a little slow. Perhaps the editors could highlight the text in the online edition.
Or, maybe whoever wrote the headline could just admit to making stuff up.

This is just another example of the ‘Bush’s’ administration at work trying to cover their prospective butts. I am all for getting people like Bush out of control of our great country because as if his daddy’s example wasn’t bad enough to clean up after now the next President has an even bigger mess to clean up than any other before in history. It has been said around towns and around the country that we would not be in this huge mess if Bush and his administration would have just thought about someone or something other than padding their own pockets and each others and helped the real Americans that are struggling to just stay afloat or keep their homes and small businesses alive. If we middle-class Americans had it as easy as the rich there would be a recession at all. I am a working class parent with kids who hasn’t been able to ever take a real vacation with my family because there is always more and more that politicians want from anyone who is basically a nobody such as higher gas and taxes but I also have noticed that Bush hasn’t stopped his little visits to that sweet Texas ranch of his which he seems to go there ALOT. He has promised alot and delivered very little to us middle or lower income Americans. I am an Obama supporter now and I intend to vote for him in November because he grew up basically like most of us real Americans have with not alot of money or possessions. He has said alot of good things he intend to do for us and he understands what it is like to be poor and struggle to just feed our families and pay our bills month to month. Please America think long and hard about who you would want in control of your money; a man who has had to struggle growing up to get where he is or someone who has had money forever. And their running mates and wives who have had to [Obama’s] struggle growing up or [McCain’s] who has had BIG Budweiser money all her life. Their running mates are a real American and a former beauty queen who has obviously not had any money problems but has had other Federal investigations into her life and the way she runs Alaska. Thank you!!

Well, Yellowdog. With a democrat majority in both the Senate and House, financial leadership by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, there more than enough “blowback” to go around. Remember even with the President’s approval rating at an all time low, the Congress’ rating is well below Pres. Bush’s rating. Unless there is a miracle, and I do believe in them, all this will be in your boys laps in January. So hold on to your hat, and you pocket book.

Thanks Louie for voting against the bailout. It is too bad our Senators did not vote against it. The market was going to crash with or without the rescue that was evident. People should be p** about having to carry the burden of this disaster and the 110 billion of fat that was added to the original 700 billion plan. Predatory lenders loaned money to those who wanted to be somebody but failed to realize they were not going to be able to payback the money. All the people found tied to this scandal should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law and that includes the politicans on the “Hill”. Mandatory loss of their positions and jail time sounds good to me. We as the people of the United States of America need to take back our country soon or the corrupt will give it away for us.

You are right and the crumbling foundation includes greed and lust for power on equal footing with the morally based social issues you enumerate - this is not a one party issue; for every crooked Repub you could name a crooked Dem. Simply put (whether acknowledged or not) the difference is how close are we living according to the priciples this country was founded on? It is not coincidence (and there are 4000 years of history to confirm) that the closer you live to those, the more society benefits. The further away, the worse things get.

Holy Cow TPG, the moral fiber line is the reason we are in this mess. While the Republicans had everyone stired up over prayer, abortion, gay marriage, etc., etc., etc, they were stealing our retirement. This is simple human greed and lust for power.

The financial collapse is not relative to who was/is in office; democrat (where the incentives for high risk loans began under Carter and supercharged by the Clinton administration) or republican (who let them run wildly unregulated and created false wealth at the expense of others) - It is directly relative to the moral collapse of this country. Sovereign authority is disregarded and mocked. The principles for our society as a whole were based upon the edicts of this sovereign authority who promised if follwed would provide life in all abundance. We are now seeing the effects of a society who has lost its foundation. You want to see where else it leads? Just look overseas.
