Generosity letdown not in forecast, groups say
The national economic outlook might be bleak, but organizers for most local nonprofit agencies don’t expect to see a decline in holiday donations.
“I really don’t think all the doom and gloom we’re hearing about on TV has reached the East Texas area,” said Mickie Hand with the Thanksgiving Food Drive. “Most people I’ve talked to about the drive still have a pretty positive outlook and are eager to help out as much as they always have.”
Maj. Robert Winters with the Salvation Army agreed with Hand’s assessment. Winters said he has served in other areas where the economy was faltering, such as West Texas during the oil bust, and people always came through.
Are you still giving in tough economic times?

People will always donate food, but non profits better be prepared for very few cash donations. The story that East Texas is immune from a bad economy is false. Ask around. They shouldn’t expect a government handout.
LISD is building millions and millions of tax money on new schools, but can’t seem to have a clean cafeteria. For God’s sake a “C” at a public school. Perhaps they should let the mission or the nonprofits cook for them. People will donate food.
