Texas Country Hall of Fame taps McCoy

Two native East Texans are among three country music artists destined for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.

Jacksonville native-turned-Longview resident Neal McCoy will join Panola County native Linda Davis and western singer-songwriter Michael Martin Murphey as 2009 inductees into the hall of fame Aug. 15 in Carthage, according to Carolyn Moore, venue spokeswoman.

McCoy has 10 studio albums to his credit, including 1994’s “No Doubt About It” and 1995’s “You Gotta Love That,” which both reached platinum status. His 1997 greatest hits album was also platinum.

McCoy was born in Jacksonville in 1958. He was named TNN/Music City New Country Awards’ Entertainer of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and he won the American Country Music/Home Depot Humanitarian Award in 2005.

How do you feel about Neal McCoy being named to the Hall of Fame?

Neal has been a credit as a citizen of Longview and as a country music singer. He is always courteouis, mannerly and sings up a storm.

Hooray for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. I have visited there several times with family who are great fans of his, too, and they will be pleased to seen him represented there when they visit me the next time. Thank you.

Visit the News-Journal’s Multimedia Page for two videos shot of Neal during a benefit concert last year. Videos are on the left side, and they are in the list of More Audio/Video toward the bottom! Enjoy!!

Longview is most honored to call Neal our own. He and his wife have done so much for so many kids and their families. If you see him in a store, he is just one of us, so kind and friendly, not stuck up or uppity. He’s a true hero around here.

Let me be the first to say that you will have the “best” when you induct Neal McCoy. Such a wonderful, gracious and giving person. Don’t forget to mention Neal, Melinda and Patsy’s work for ETAN. Thanks
