Year’s half over: How’s your 2009 going so far?
Depending on your viewpoint, the cup is either half-filled or half-empty. Either way, the year is definitely half over.
Tuesday marked the halfway point of 2009. And with six months until 2010 — 84 days until fall and 55 days before the next school year starts — we set out to take a measure of the year so far.
“The summer is going way too fast,” said Laura Tipton, 17, of Longview. “I’m already trying to get ready to go back to school.” Tipton will be a senior at New Diana High School and is working at Carmike Cinemas for the summer. She said she buys her school clothes during the summer because they are less expensive.
“Vacation? What vacation?” joked co-worker, Jillian Brumett, 17, who said the cinema seems busier this year. “I don’t know for sure if it’s related to the new ‘Stimulus Tuesday’ deal,” she said. “But Tuesdays are our best weekday.” (Stimulus Tuesday patrons can get a small popcorn and a drink for $5.)
How’s your half-year been?

I can understand why Hot Dog Express is busy. It’s Liz Miller’s smile at the drive-thru window. She is always smiling and gives a boost to everyone who drives through her window. I buy hot dogs just to see her smile…even though they are the best in TEXAS…..Thanks, Liz
