The meaning of July 4th
Independence Day means myriad things for Americans, but some people in Longview have their own reasons for celebrating. Some have migrated from other countries in recent years, and others are the multigenerational product of English ancestors who came long ago.
All are united by the common thread of freedom. Here, they tell what July Fourth means to them.
What does July Fourth mean to you?

I wholeheartedly agree 100% with Margart Blair’s statement above. It deeply saddens me on a daily basis to see the many vast, endless herds of mindless sheeple, not just in East Texas, but throughout the whole entire world who are irreversibly indoctrinated and deluded from cradle to grave to so blindly follow along and believe, without question, in a false reality. Most very unfortunately and especially here in East Texas, hopeless delusion, fictional, make-believe deity worship, ignorance, hate, jealousy, greed, unjustified persecution and hypocrisy is most prevalent and has always reigned supreme. For all of the dumbed-down, mental midgets that suffer from such pernicious and self-induced addictions/afflictions there is absolutely no hope. They are all lambs to the bloody slaughter that awaits them.
I would like to suggest for those very few brave, literate and rational-minded individuals that may still exist out there, who possess at least a small fragment of consciousness, strong mental fortitude, intellectual stability and discernment, to please wake up from their deep, hypnotic slumber and engage in some critical research into what is really going on around them. A good starting point would be to read the “Children of the Matrix” and “The Biggest Secret” by the British researcher David Icke. Might I also suggest that they read “The Gods of Eden” by William Bramley.
How truly wonderful it is to finally discover another free-thinking, intelligent life form in East Texas! I seriously had become convinced many years ago that such things of this important magnitude had long been extinct and no longer existed, especially behind the dark, opressive pine curtain of East Texas.

Maggie, you are probably a recipient of Medicare, or Medicaid both of which are forms of government-run health care implemented over 40 years ago. neither of those programs were established with financial controls to maintain solvency or George Bush would not have been able to create the prescription drug component (Medicare Part D) without providing ANY funding for the benefit. As a result of Bush’s tampering, Medicare began spending more than it’s revenues quicker and the cost of medications commonly used by the elderly promptly increased. Any changes being proposed to our current health care system are supposed to be revenue neutral - unlike the changes made by Bush - and are supposed to allow improved cost control - also unlike Bush’s changes.
Now is the time to reform our method of health care to make it affordable over the long-term. We pay more than any other industrialized nation for health care yet we do not lead the work in longevity.
Where else would you find customers begging to pay more and get less? We must change now!

Maggie, I would not worry too much. The healthcare system is in shambles as it is. Not much will change. The only change we might see will be a lot of FEAR thrown at us. Pharmacutical companies, Doctors groups, Insurance companies, and their lobbyist will do anything to use fear tactics. Just like the Republicans did with Iraq and gay marriage. They love to scare the heck out of people to server their very own needs. They will protect the money.
Enjoy your July 4th, and this great country.

I have lived in Texas all my life. I am now an old lady, my husband has Alzheimer’s. If the Health Care Bill passes, we will be told that we are not in good enough health to receive treatment. Where is the freedom we were given on the original 4th of July. The old people of the USA will be forced to take up arms again. Not in the literal way, but we do need to fight to keep the bill from passing. God Bless America….

If you think Bush ruined this country, you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. Wait til this administration gets done with all they plan to do. We will be begging for socialism just to be able to feed our families. But instead of sitting here and whining, I think I will I’ll go down to the court house and make my voice heard. I will try to do what I can to make this nation a better place. But you can either whimper and moan about how horrible everything has become. Or get up and do something. Be at the courthouse tomorrow and make yourself heard. You get out of something just what you put into it.

Margaret’s comments hit the nail on the head. I will celebrate what was formerly known as the Bill of Rights, now know as the Bill of Privelages. It is not a Right if the Government can take them away, it is only a privelage. So I will celebrate, by getting on Wikipedia and reading about Japanese Americans in 1942. This country has gone downhill the last 40 years. We lost more rights under George Bush than any President in history. So yea I will celebrate on my computer studying about what has happened to this once Great Country.

I love the USA flag! My flag now since 2000. I am grateful to be an American citizen now because of two reasons. First, Freedom and the second the Opportunity me and my family have been given in this now our country. God bless the USA.

The 4th allows me to celebrate the illusion of Freedom. We do not have much anymore. Just an illusion of it. The politicians have taken most of it away the last 30 years. The 4th also allows me to reflect on all the lies we have been told as citizens of the United States. Lies about fighting for our freedom overseas, lies about how we are free, but have particular religions shoved down our throat.
These days the government at all levels, want to control our income, where we live, who we associate with, and where we work. They do not want us to question anything. The just want obedient citizens to follow whatever they tell us.
Try to build a house in Longview and you will get a taste of what I am talking about.

I was born and raised in Upshur county. I love the pride shown as flags lines the streets in Gilmer. I remember the first day I saw the flag flying on the court house lawn, amazing, I cried. This should be the feeling we get every time we see the flag. Never forget what is behind the flag. Still today many men and womwen are in harms way, so fly our flag proudly and often. Pray for them and our country.
