Heavy winds, rain leave many East Texans without power
The Longview Police Department on Friday morning set up a command post to aid with storm damage.
“There’s storm damage all over town,” said police spokesman Kevin Brownlee.
Most of the damage has been on the east side of Longview with heavy damage in the Longview Heights neighborhood, Brownlee said. He reported that dozens of trees were down in Longview Heights with some trees falling on houses and cars. There also are several power lines down in the area, he said.
There haven’t been any fatal wrecks, but Brownlee said there have been several wrecks.
Numerous traffic signals are out around town, Brownlee added. Locations include Gilmer Road and Marshall Avenue; Eastman Road and Marshall Avenue; Fairmont Street and Loop 281; Pine Tree Road and Loop 281; and Alpine Road and Loop 281.
Southwestern Electric Power Company workers are already in the area working to restore power to more than 15,000 East Texans, said Scott McCloud, company spokesman. McCloud estimated that it would take workers all day to restore power to everyone.
