PT, SH, J-ville scrimmage notes
Pine Tree scored once on Spring Hill during the first-team, 15-play scrimmage and again against the Panthers during the live quarter on a 75-yard Ray Horton run.
Spring Hill scored once - a 28-yard slant from Dylan Brown to Tyler Leath - against Jacksonville, while the Indians were shut out by PT and Spring Hill.
Pine Tree head coach Tim Russell wasn’t enthusiastic about Matt Hamer and Alton Horton’s performances at quarterback, although he did say they managed the game well. Russell was happy with the play of sophomores Adam Kokenzie, Dominique Webb and Breynon Henderson, and called junior defensive leader Steven Hawkins “a hoss.”
Kokenzie had an interception, while Russell praised Webb for his running and linebacker play. Henderson made good reads and was technically sound at linebacker, Russell said. Hawkins, a tackle, stayed in the opponents’ backfields much of the evening and returns as the Pirates’ top front-seven playmaker.
Demarcus Hart started at the defensive end spot that’s still up for grabs. Russell said film evaluation will determine a definite starter or rotation. He added that situational personnel adjustments could be the answer.
