Opening weekend games
I’ve been waiting for football to begin the moment LSU concluded its national championship victory over Ohio State back in January.
That thirst gets quenched for the first time this weekend.
Thursday night, I’ll be in Lufkin covering the Henderson vs. Navasota game. Two good backs face off in the Lions’ Telvin Fryman and the Rattlers’ Dexter Pratt, a 6-2, 227-pound LSU commit who is ranked among the top prospects in the state.
Friday I’ll cover Pine Tree vs. Pleasant Grove in Longview. Last year’s game was a 55-23 Pirate blowout, but the Hawks are ranked in the top 14 of three different Class 3A polls entering 2008.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, whenever I finish my weekend football work for the News-Journal, I’ll travel with news reporter Wes Ferguson to Baton Rouge overnight for LSU’s season opener against Appalachian State. We’re excited to see the first-ever matchup of FBS and FCS champions in a season opener.
What games are y’all excited about?
