Football time in East Texas
As I write this, it is a little more than two hours until the start of the 2008 season. Henderson and Navasota kick things off at 7 p.m. at Abe Martin Stadium in Lufkin. Staff writer Gabriel D. Brooks will cover that game for the Longview News-Journal, and we will also have writers at Gilmer vs. Jasper (Rick Kretzschmar) and Gladewater vs. Center (J.C. Derrick). Our sister papers in Nacogdoches and Marshall will share stories on games between Tenaha and Maud and West Rusk and Elysian Fields.
On top of that, when you open your newspaper tomorrow you are in for a nice, 12-page surprise. The Zone, our preview package of games, stats, standings, schedules, etc. is now in a weekly tabloid format.
