FROM STAFF REPORTS AUSTIN — Kylie Roos tossed a two-hitter and drove in a couple of runs, leading Celina to a 4-1 Class 2A state semifinal win over the Spring Hill Lady Panthers.
Celina (37-5) moves on to face Needville (33-8) in the state title game Saturday at 2 p.m. Spring Hill finishes its season with a 29-9 record.
Roos limited the Lady Panthers to an infield single by Shannon Sanders and a triple by Kayla Williams.
Trailing 4-0, the Lady Panthers got on the board in the sixth inning when Sanders led off with a single but was retired when Ashley Campbell reached on a fielder’s choice. With one out, Roos walked Williams and Allison Brown to load the bases, and Lizzie Autrey grounded out to plate Campbell. Roos ended the inning by getting Sha’ McDowell to fly out to left.
Sanders led off the game with a walk, but was stranded. Roos singled with two outs in the bottom of the first, but was also left on the basepaths.
Spring Hill also stranded runners in the second, third and fourth innings. In the second, Avery Curtis drew a two-out walk but was caught stealing. Sanders drew a two-out walk in the third but was stranded, and Williams led off the fourth with a triple before Roos worked out of the jam.
Celina scored twice in the third when Brittanie Knowles delivered a two-out single and scored on Lindsie Knowles’ triple. Roos followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 Lady Bobcat lead.
In the fourth, Katelyn Drummond had an RBI single to make it 3-0, and Roos had an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth to put Celina in front 4-0.
