Lobos remain No. 1 in Associated Press football poll
East Texas’ three top-ranked teams held their No. 1 spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 10 polls.
Longview’s 54-14 thrashing of Natchitoches (La.) Central rewarded the Lobos (3-0) with 22 of 25 first-place votes, placing No. 1 Longview one spot ahead of Lake Travis (3-0).
District 13-4A foe Sulphur Springs (3-0) moved up four spots to No. 6 after a 26-15 road win against Wichita Falls Rider.
In 3A, Gilmer’s 35-17 comeback win against Liberty-Eylau was enough for the Buckeyes (3-0) to keep all 25 first-place votes. Carthage (3-0) held the No. 2 spot with a 48-20 win at Atlanta.
The situation was the same in 2A as Daingerfield (3-0) stayed at No. 1 with 20 first-place votes thanks to its 27-13 win over previously ranked 3A squad Celina. Arp (3-0) remained at No. 2, receiving three first-place votes in lieu of the Tigers’ 35-0 win over previous Class A No. 2 Alto.
Alto (2-1) slipped to ninth in the Class A poll, while Cayuga (1-1) bumped up a spot to No. 8 despite its game at Dawson being cancelled because of weather.
