How to look trendy on your treadmill

Monday, February 26, 2007

The holiday season has come and gone, but can you say the same for those few extra holiday pounds you gained? It may be time for you to hit the gym! Before you do, think twice about wearing an old T-shirt with sweat pants.

Thanks to Longview's Racquet and Jog, Academy and Dillard's, women can step up to the StairMaster in style.

Keep your cool

If you're a serious athlete aiming at intense workout routines, you're probably familiar with Under Armour. Natasha Montgomery, a sales associate at Academy said its popularity stems from not only the comfort of the clothing, but also the look and the variety of the apparel.

"They make anything you could imagine you'd want to wear for a workout," she said. "You can look cute and be comfortable while you're hiking, running, rock climbing, you name it."

Under Armour's Heat Gear line works to keep you cool while you sweat. These tight-fitting workout duds are designed with a mesh fabric that ventilates while it pulls moisture from your skin.

Casual cardio

For those of you who aren't quite ready to make the transition from your T-shirts and sweats to hardcore athletic wear, stop by Racquet and Jog and check out Horny Toad Activewear. Employee Joey Kraus said Horny Toad is the "it" attire for the casual gal at the gym. It's also a hit with yoga lovers.

"Horny Toad is popular with women because it's multifunctional," he said. "The clothes offer enough support for a workout ... and they are so stylish that women can go from a workout to the grocery store or any other errand and not worry about how she looks."

Fancy footwork

Shoes are a very important part of an outfit wherever you go — even the gym — and there are tons of kicks to choose from. One shoe that has been most sought after at Dillard's is making everyone purr. "Puma is a great brand because it's always stylish," said LaToya Smith, a sales associate at Dillard's. "They're also really great to wear during a workout because they're very light, so you hardly feel them."

The Puma Future Cat is as functional as it is stylish. It's non-slip sole provides great traction and it's futuristic design comes in many different colors (for your many different outfits)!
