Mothers & Daughters: Favorite weekend activity?

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Charm asked our mothers and daughters, "What's your favorite weekend activity?" Here's what they said:

JOCQULYN BOYD AND JE'NA TUNSON OF JEFFERSON

Jocqulyn, 59: "My favorite weekend activity is playing cards with my daughter, Je'na. She and I are alike in so many ways. We are two very compassionate, caring, confident, yet sometimes overly competitive individuals. When we play cards against each other we are like two bulls locking horns. We enjoy talking smack, bragging, bluffing and doing our best to intimidate each other. When we are in competition, the atmosphere is very different than if we are just sitting down engaging in serious conversation.

My daughter is a younger version of me. She is smart, beautiful and intelligent. Spending time with my daughter is like looking back in my past.

Je'na, 29: "My favorite weekend activity consists of spending time with my mom after church. During the week, everything is so hectic, so Sunday is our day. Usually, Mom cooks and we eat until we can't eat another bite. Afterward, we lie on the couch for awhile and then play the board game Double Trouble because my mom loves this game. The rest of the time we just talk and listen to one another describe what's going on in our lives. I love the closeness that we share and that is why this is my favorite weekend activity."

MELISSA HOWARD AND HEATHER PALMER OF MARSHALL

Melissa, 40: "One of my favorite things to do with my daughter is just sit down and talk with her. We have an extremely open relationship. On the weekends, we enjoy sitting down together as mother and daughter, and also as friends. These visits are important because we are able to catch up on everything going on in each other's lives. Mother/daughter talks are the best!"

Heather, 18: "My favorite thing to do with my mom is shop. We don't see each other much, because we're both so busy with school and with work – the combination of the two makes it difficult to keep up with what's going on in the other's life. Relaxing mother and daughter days spent chatting and shopping are usually the highlights of my week. Plus, it's always great to get new clothes."
