Take your best shot

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

It's happened to us all: We go to a big family event, snap a million photos and then sadly flip through the blurry, useless shots once they've been developed. Ladies, this can be avoided.

It's time to zoom into the digital age! But where should you start? With help from Longview's Target, Best Buy and The Camera Shop, focusing on the right camera for you should be a snap.

Kodak EasyShare C743
The Novice
Once you take the initiative to put aside your trusty 35 mm camera and explore the unknown arena of digital, Target's electronics team leader Richard LeFlore suggested picking up a Kodak EasyShare camera. "Kodak's EasyShare cameras are great cameras overall, especially for beginners," he said. "They aren't difficult to use, even if you've never touched a digital camera before, and you get nice, clear pictures from them." Take for example the Kodak EasyShare C743. This point-and-shoot, 7.1 megapixel camera is small enough to wear around your neck at a softball game and its 3x zoom will help you capture the detail in a game-winning home run. This digital gem also records video, and if your relative misses a big event, no worries! Kodak's Share button makes it easy to tag photos or videos for e-mailing, printing or even creating an online album for all to see.

Joel Sayre, a store supervisor, pointed out that Casios not only make a trendy addition to your outfit, but also take great shots. "Any of the Casios make great accessories," he said. "They are really good little cameras. It's amazing how much zoom you can get out of them for the size that they are." The fashionable Casio EXILIM Z1050 boasts a variety of great features in a compact size. Underneath its sleek exterior, it's a 10.1 megapixel camera, which translates to crystal-clear photos. Canon EOS 20D Digital SLR
The Photographer
Do you want to turn your snapshot hobby into something a little more professional? Maybe you're the go-to-girl for pictures after a family reunion, or maybe you're starting a business and you need to take quality photos for newspaper ads. The Camera Shop's owner Bob Rodgers suggested Canon's EOS 20D Digital SLR (what a mouthful!) for advanced amateurs and professionals alike. "This is the camera I use," Bob said. "It's like the Cadillac of digital cameras." This camera will prove to be as passionate about photography as you are. With its 8.2 megapixel resolution, it shoots with speed and precision -- five frames per second for up to 23 consecutive frames! At that rate, you'll never miss a beat. Interchangeable lenses allow for some serious zoom action, and editing shots is a breeze with new software that allows for more creative control.

Once your search for the perfect camera is complete, get to know your new digital companion: Spend some time reading the manual. Aferward, go out and buy a memory card (a super easy way to store tons more pictures on your camera). While the average internal memory of a digital camera holds between 15-25 pictures at a time, a 512MB memory card can store more than 200 shots. Say cheese!
