BEBE AND SARAH CHURCH OF LONGVIEW
Bebe, 40: "I grew up in a family of 10. We played outside constantly and swam all summer. One of my most memorable home remedies is a mixture of vinegar and rubbing alcohol put on my ears after swimming to prevent swimmer's ear. Also, vinegar in my bath water would treat a sunburn. Just the smell of vinegar brings back many memories.
When we played outside there was always baking soda paste for bee stings and clear fingernail polish for chigger bites. Also, when we would burn ourselves cooking we would just pinch off a piece an aloe vera plant and rub it on the burn."
Sarah, 14: "I think that duct tape is the best thing to put on warts. If you put a small piece of duct tape on your wart for several days it makes the wart come off. I have had them burned off by the doctor and dermatologist but that is painful. Besides, duct tape comes in neat colors!"
DEDORAH AND ALEXANDRIA PAYNE OF MARSHALL
Dedorah, 39: "I think that one of my best home remedies is the hot toddies that I make to help relieve the symptoms of a winter cold. A hot toddie consits of hot tea, fresh-squeezed lemon and honey. For monthly cramps, I use the same recipe but add a crushed midol."
Alexandria, 16: "One recipe that my mom has made for me that I'll always remember is a cow-chip tea. My great-uncle shared the recipe with her to make for me when I had a terrible head-cold that I had. Although I didn't drink the tea, I did inhale the vapors and it started to immediately break up the cold in my chest. My mom also rubbed Vicks Vapor Rub on my chest and under my nose before I inhaled the vapors from the tea."
