Once upon a time I bought some stock. Every morning the newspaper brought joy or despair over the latest report of my little investment. A short time later I sold it because the constant changing of the stock market made me a nervous wreck. Worry over possible losses made me lose all perspective . . . even when things were good there was a little nagging fear that it wouldn't last.
Isn't God good? He only lets us see one day, one hour, one minute at a time so that we don't have to worry in advance when changes come in our lives. When God is in control we know that our lives are in His hands and He knows the beginning from the end. He can give us peace about our future even when we can't fathom what our next step might be, could be or should be.
In 2001, I was told that I had liver cancer. During the years of tests that followed, many people both here and across the country prayed for me. Some folks said that I was in denial because I had peace in my heart during this time . . . believe me when I say "it was God-given peace" because it's my nature to worry. This past January, a sonogram couldn't find any trace of the previously diagnosed liver cancer. God answered prayer.
Now, in 2007, my husband has prostate cancer that has gone to the bone. He has completed radiation treatments and is awaiting further test results to see if chemotherapy will be needed. His doctor is optimistic and Cliff also has peace about his outcome . . . our times are in God's hands and He knows the beginning from the end. Once again, heaven is being bombarded with the prayers of God's people and a loving Heavenly Father will hear and answer according to His perfect will. Our lives are in His hands, one snippet at a time: "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!"
What a wonder!
