Charm asked our mothers and daughters, "Which classic literary character reminds you of your mother/daughter?" Here's what they said:
JUDITH AND SARAH TRICKEY OF LONGVIEW
Judith, 48: "Sarah is a well-rounded, All-American type of girl. She has tried sports, plays in band, twirls at Foster Middle School and has been in Scouts and Camp Fire. As a young girl, she and her sister had American Girl dolls with little outfits, furniture and stories. Each doll has a personality and represents an era of American history.
Due to the hair color, activities and family values, Kirsten was the doll that Sarah chose to have and play with for years. Sarah possesses many of the characteristics that Kirsten represents: she is honest, sincere, has a good work ethic, and she is likable and mature.
I think that the American Girl series is a modern classic series that many mothers and daughters share together.
Sarah, 14: "My mother is a classic! All the years of teaching has produced the character 'Trickey.' She is actually nice and polite, and quite a lady when she needs to be. However, her actions may not be considered ladylike in her role as a teacher, care-giver and bus driver. My mother is honest and direct, and most of the time people around her misinterpret the situation.
Society doesn't seem to favor strong, independent women; therefore, I think of the characters in 'Little Women' when considering my mother. She would do just about anything for anybody, and always has. When one of the daughters in the novel cuts her hair to help the family financially, I can picture my mother bald! Yet, she would never miss a beat in life."
DARA AND JASMINE BRAZILE OF LONGVIEW
Dara, 46: Jasmine reminds me of Grace in the book 'Amazing Grace' by Mary Hoffman because she has run into obstacles in life, but she refuses to give up in spite of everything. As a mother, I have always taught her that she could be anything she wants to be if she believes in herself."
Jasmine, 14: "The mother in the book 'Amazing Grace' by Mary Hoffman reminds me of my own mother. When I was a child, my mom always taught me that I could be anything that I set my mind to. This book has helped teach me self-determination and perseverance, just like my mother taught me.
My mother's favorite motto (and my favorite motto) is 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.' It taught me that there are no limits to what I can do."
