"To stay healthy during the holiday season, I work to maintain the same workout regimen that I do all year long. I do cardio at least five to six times a week and strength training five times a week. Like most people, I enjoy eating during this time; however, I limit my portion sizes while still enjoying the traditional holiday foods like turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, homemade rolls, pumpkin bread, pies, cakes, homemade candies, etc. Therefore, I know that whatever I eat has a caloric count, and I have to be sure that I continue my workout regimen to burn those calories to stay healthy during the holiday season."

"Of course, continue your workouts. As far as dieting, try not the change your portion sizes. Realistically, I know there will be slip-ups, and when that happens and I eat more than planned, I up my cardio the next day. Try as best you can to stay on track, but know that there will be slip-ups."

"If you know you’re going to a party where you’ll probably splurge on good foods, use that meal as your cheat meal for the week. If you have a nutritionally balanced diet and you eat clean, good-for-you foods, you should allow yourself one cheat meal a week. This meal allows your body to realize that you’re not starving it or depriving it of treats. So, if you know enough in advance about a party, plan your cheat meal for that event."

"You know the holiday parties are approaching, so have a plan. Find a friend who will be home for the holidays who will work out with you. Having a partner will keep you motivated to stay fit and will mean that someone is holding you accountable for staying healthy."

"Obviously, it’s hard to do as well diet- and fitness-wise during the winter months. During the holidays, I make sure not to deprive myself of good foods, so I just watch my portion sizes. What would holidays be without pies? They wouldn’t be any fun without pies. When it comes to desserts, I eat whatever my kids have left on their plates, that way I don’t have a whole piece all to myself."

"When I’m entertaining, I make as many fat-free, nutritious snacks I can think of. I don’t do lots of dips, and I stick to protein and vegetable dishes. Cut back on the sweets if you can."
