Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Charm asked our mothers and kids, "What homemade Valentine's Day crafts will you make this year?" Here's what they said:

Valentine's Snow Globe

things you'll need:

• jar of baby food (medium or large)

• bottle of baby oil

• glitter

• hot glue gun

• red or pink tulle

• Valentine's Day stickers

• small plastic figure (Valentine's Day appropriate — a cupid works nicely)

Step 1. Empty contents of your baby food jar. Wash out the inside of the jar, making sure there is no food residue left behind.

Step 2. Completely peel off the outside label, and clean the outside of the jar.

Step 3. Fill the jar with baby oil, leaving a little space at the top to accommodate the size of the small plastic figure you've decided to use.

Step 4. Sprinkle glitter (about 1/2 a tbsp) into the baby oil you've poured inside the baby food jar.

Step 5. Turn the lid inside up, and use your hot glue gun to attach your plastic figure to the inside of the lid.

Step 6. When you're happy with the look of figure and and the amount of glitter, screw the lid back on the jar and seal it tightly.

Step 7. Add your final touches. For a more decorative and finished look, place Valentine's Day stickers on the outside of the jar, or glue red or pink tulle around the base of your globe.

Valentine's Day Bookmarks

things you'll need:

• normal scissors and curvey cut scissors

• pink and red string

• heart-shaped hole puncher

• Valentine's Day paper

• stick glue

• last year's Valentine's Day cards

Step 1. Take your Valentine's Day paper and cut it into the size and shape of a bookmark. Use the curvey cut scissors to make the outside edges a little more fun.

Step 2. Punch a hole at the top of one end with the heart-shaped hole punch.

Step 3. Take a piece of the pink string and a piece of the red string, twist them together and put them through the heart-punched hole. Tie them together into a knot at the end.

Step 4. For your next bookmark, use regular scissors. Punch out pieces of Valentine's Day paper with the heart-shaped hole punch. Glue these pieces of the paper to the top of your bookmark.
