Kinky Boots, PG-13

"British comedies have always been a favorite of mine, and this film did not disappoint. Wonderful acting and a top-notch soundtrack round out this amazing film. 'Kinky Boots’ was inspired by the true story. Charlie inherits the family business and discovers the company is in dire straights. With a little assistance from a faithful employee Lauren and a lot of inspiration from the most unlikely acquaintance, female impersonator 'Lola,’ Charlie not only saves the family business but discovers what it means to be a real man in the process. From the drab streets of Northampton to the flamboyant pageantry of Milan, this film will keep you in stitches every step of the way."

Beverly Hills Chihuahua, PG

"This movie was one of the cutest movies I have seen in a long time! Pampered Beverly Hills Chihuahua Chloe is used to getting her nails done and enjoying pampered pooch parties with other pampered dogs. She spends her days sunning herself and avoiding the gardener’s chihuahua, Papi, who is madly in love with her. While vacationing with her owner’s niece, all this changes when she gets lost in Mexico and ends up on the dog fighting circuit. Another captive helps her to escape and leads her on a funny, exciting adventure through the streets of Mexico. This movie is fun for the whole family and will keep you laughing throughout the entire flick."

House Bunny, PG-13

"This is about Playboy Bunny, Shelly, living at the famous Playboy Mansion with Hugh Hefner and his other girls. After Shelly celebrates her 27th birthday with a huge birthday bash, the next morning she wakes up to find a letter telling her she’s no longer welcome to live at the mansion and that she’ll never be 'centerfold material.’ Reluctant and heartbroken, she moves out and happens upon a group of college sorority girls who need a den mother to oversee their sorority house and prevent it from being sold. There’s only one catch — they have to get 30 new pledges to join! These girls are the biggest misfits you can imagine, but with Shelly’s help (and major makeovers) they become popular and confident enough to save their house from being sold! Then comes a major twist at the end when the ex-bunny gets an offer from Hugh Hefner she doesn’t think she can refuse ... It’s a cute little story, and has some really funny moments. I’d give it a B-."

Escape by Carolyn Jessop

"Carolyn Jessop’s memoir, 'Escape,’ documents her life when she was part of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS). She talks about being the fourth wife of a church elder and her subsequent escape from that church group. I found this memoir to be truly shocking and, at times, even funny in her depiction of her everyday life as a wife in a plural marriage. Abuses suffered at the hand of her husband, who was “chosen of God,” were rampant, as well as abuses dealt out by her sister-wives. Her description of the wives jockeying for power by finding favor in the husband’s eyes reads almost comically, as does her narrative of a family vacation that they took which consisted of her husband, all seven wives and all their children. In reading the book, I found Carolyn’s strength to be inspiring as she battled against the restraints placed upon her, all the while questioning the faith that she had been raised to believe in. This book is truly a memorable read that will stay in your thoughts for some time"

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

"The best book I have read recently is 'Twilight.’ It’s the first of a four-book series by the author, Stephenie Meyer. This book is a classic love story, only with a very dark side. The heroine, Bella, is new in town and becomes involved with a very intriguing boy at school, Edward. As the relationship becomes more involved, Bella comes to the realization that Edward is not like any other typical teenager. In fact, he’s not a teenager at all, he’s a vampire! He’s a vampire that thirsts for her blood. Although the temptation is great, Edward finds himself falling in love with Bella and can’t help but keep her alive. The two are suddenly involved in a dangerous love affair from which neither of them may escape unharmed. This story is full of action, mystery, suspense, romance and horror, and it’s a great escape to a world where love conquers all."

The Heretic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent

"Freedom of Religion? Hardly. The Puritans believed in freedom of religion only for themselves, as dictated by Puritan leaders like Cotton Mather. Deviate from their teachings and you were likely to be labeled a witch. 'The Heretic’s Daughter,’ the debut novel by Kathleen Kent, gives us a new perspective of the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Based on the story of her own ancestor, Kent tells the moving story of Martha Carrier through the voice of 9-year-old Sarah Carrier. With a constant fear of Indians, the plague, and the Devil himself, Puritan ministers were quick to cry witchcraft. Kent’s excellent storytelling is rich with details in this intriguing look at a dark chapter in American history."
