Recently, everyone's been raving about a little berry that packs a powerful punch full of healthy goodness. It's a reddish-purple fruit from Central and South America, and although it hasn't been scientifically proven, it's been linked to preventing diseases and aiding in weight loss, and is now even in natural cosmetics. The acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is everywhere, and Stacy Conner, a licensed esthetician in Longview, knows why.
The beauty of it
"The acai berry is a new thing claiming to be the most nutritious and powerful food in the world," Stacy said. "It's full of nutrients and antioxidants, and it's been formulated for nutriocosmetics, which is a procedure mixing food and nutrition into beauty products in order to get the best results for your skin."
Some cosmetics contain acai oil in the ingredient list. Studies show that acai oil may be a safer alternative to other topical oils used in products such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin therapies, shampoos and conditioners. Unlike some oils, when acai oil is processed and stored long-term, the antioxidant levels remain high.
"Antioxidants are a key ingredient because they combat free radicals and rebuild your skin cell structure, which in turn helps you to look younger," Stacy said. "The environment and the foods we eat put a lot of stress on our skin, and we need to constantly protect our cells."
She's put together a facial mask infused with this amazing berry and is excited about the results. Not only does her facial clean and exfoliate skin, but also it nourishes the skin to promote a clear, youthful glow.
"I use pure, organic, freeze-dried acai berry in my facial mask, and I've grouped it with other skin care wonders that are known to be the best for making your skin the healthiest it can be," Stacy said. "You need to start protecting your skin before age 30. My facial treatment with the acai berry has had great results."
More than skin deep
Five months ago, Longview resident Marla Johnson started going through "the change." She was eager to explore ways to manage her menopause without the use of prescription hormones from her doc.
"My husband and I are big into nutrition, and we read about the acai berry and all the benefits that come along with drinking this 'superfood' juice," Marla said. "I asked my doctor if I could try it for a few months to see if it helped relieve the hot flashes, the night sweats, the moodiness, etc. He said anything with antioxidants can't hurt, and he sent me on my way without a single prescription, and asked me to report back to him in three months."
Three months later, Marla called her doctor to report that not only had the acai juice reduced the moodiness, it completely eliminated her hot flashes, night sweats and improved her vision.
"I used to wear prescription glasses. Now I only use my reading glasses from time to time," she said. "I also lost 16 pounds over the holidays and have never had so much energy in my life. This stuff is powerful."
Reports claim that this miracle berry does everything Marla said it can do and more, including:
-Improves digestive function
-Promotes sound sleep
-Enhances circulation
-Slows down the aging process
-Helps maintain a healthy heart function
