"Share the wealth. Sometimes it’s easier to get rid of things if you know you are helping someone out. There are so many places in Longview that take donations. Some places take the donations and sell them, but some actually give to those in need. Also, offer to help someone get rid of clutter, and have them help you! It’s easier to clean someone else’s closet! Pitch in with a friend and swap Saturdays. Try this week at their place and next week at yours. Having someone else’s opinion when you go through your closet and try things on really helps."

"My cleaning tip is not just for the spring time. I have lots of glass, mirrors, tabletops and crystal pieces (lamps, vases and figurines) that are best cleaned with Windex and old newspaper. Not the fun magazine-style papers -- you have to use newspapers with actual newsprint with black ink (no glossy ads, either.) This glass-cleaning process leaves a shine without any streaks!"

"I remember growing up that when spring came around, mother would have us strip all the linens off the beds, vacuum the mattresses, turn the mattresses and then put on new linens. The fun part for me was getting to hang our pillows out on a clothes line to get the nice fresh spring air. The pillows would hang on the clothes line from early morning until dusk. I loved the way they smelled when we did that."

"This is one I use when I am trying to declutter and get organized. Pick a room in your house — let’s say you pick your closet. What you need is three big boxes and a few hours to play with. Start by dumping everything out of your closet. Next, label the three boxes “keep,” “donate” and “trash.” Start going through your shoes. Are they your favorite pair that fit just right, and you wear them all the time? Then they go into “keep” box. If you have a pair of shoes that have nothing wrong with them but you don’t wear, those go in the “donate” box. If you have a pair that are, let’s face it, just horrible and you or anyone else will never wear them, throw those in the “trash” box. Keep doing this with all your shoes, purses, etc. Now let’s get started on the clothes, start the same way. If there is something you love that looks great on you then by all means keep it. Instead of tossing your clothes into a box that you will keep, now hanging them up in an organized fashion. And get rid of the ‘I loved these back in college, but I am keeping them until I can be that size again’ stuff. It does nothing but take up space and depress you!"
