Marley and Me, PG

"Based on a book released in 2005, ‘Marley and Me’ takes you on a journey through relationships and lessons a family learns from their dog. Marley is described as a high-strung, boisterous and somewhat uncontrollable dog. He routinely fails to ‘get the idea’ of what humans expect of him. His acts and behaviors are forgiven, however, since it is clear that he has a heart of gold and is merely living within his nature. This is a good movie to watch for the whole family, but be warned that it does cover the adult topic of miscarriage. The strong contrast between the problems and tensions caused by his behavior and the undying devotion, love and trust shown toward the family is heart-warming. It’s a tear-jerker for sure! If you missed this at the movies, be glad you will get to weep in the privacy of your own home."

Confessions of a Shopaholic, PG

"I really enjoyed this movie — it was fun and sincere. Becky is a woman in search of a career who also has a major shopping addiction. After taking a job at a financial magazine, she soon realizes that she needs a change. I like Becky because she is flawed. She doesn’t have it all together, but her style and spirit charm everyone around her. She’s addicted to shopping, but we don’t despise her for it; instead, we relate, because what woman hasn’t given in to the siren song of a signature scarf now and again? Overall, the movie was a good experience. The story was interesting, somewhat predictable but still a great movie to watch with your girlfriends!"

Changeling, R

"I thought ‘Changeling’ was a great movie, especially since the story is based on true events that took place in the late 1920s. Directed by Clint Eastwood, this film tells the story of a woman who goes to work one day and comes home to find that her son is missing. After filing a missing person report, the LAPD searches but comes up empty-handed. Just as the mother, Christine, starts to lose hope, a 9-year-old boy shows up claiming to be her son. She takes the boy in although she knows that he is not her son. Christine decides that she cannot settle for the injustice that has been put upon her and continues to challenge the LAPD. As a result, she is slandered by the authorities and labeled as an unfit mother. This movie, although long, has a good plot that keeps you interested."

God's Gift to Women by Michael Baisden

"This suspenseful, page-turning tale introduces readers to Julian Payne, a radio show host and single parent who finds out the true meaning of ‘fatal attraction’ after having a one-night stand with a beautiful woman named Olivia the night before he moves from Chicago to Houston. After making his move, he meets his new lady, Dr. Terri Ross, and feels his life is almost complete! That is, until he realizes Olivia is psycho and has followed him from Chicago to Houston and is out to make his life a living nightmare! Great book"

The Gatecrasher by Madeleine Wickham

"This is a fun and insightful book based on the decline of modern manners and morals, with a lot of fun, fashion and funerals thrown in. Fluer, the main character, is vivacious and carefree, often without a care for the outcome or the feelings of others. Her unusual hunting grounds for available men is a little unorthodox; but, when her latest fling is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of someone from her past, things heat up quickly. Add two troubled teenagers to the mix of a couple of uneasy relationships and you never know what will happen next or where this author will take you. This is a fun, easy read that is biting and witty at the same time. The book’s fast pace keeps the pages turning to find out what on earth will happen next, and just where Fluer will land."
Cindy Wooten, Harelton
