Longview rising sophomore receiver Shamar London was released from a local hospital Friday evening after suffering an apparent back injury during practice earlier in the day, the News-Journal was told.
London was conscious and able to move his extremities before carried off the field on a stretcher 35 minutes after practice ended. He was taken to a hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel after being injured near the end of practice in an Oklahoma drill matching receivers against defensive backs.
“You get an empty feeling as a coach,” Longview coach John King said. “You feel for the kid, his teammates and his family. It’s a scary situation. Our training staff was on hand and we had all three trainers on the field. They gave him the proper attention until the medics arrived.”
King and Longview officials were unable to comment specifically on the injury because of the HIPAA Law.
