FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How can we request anniversary, birthday, wedding and birth greetings from the president?
A: For an individual 80 or more years young, or for a couple celebrating 50 or more years of marital bliss, request a greeting from the White House at least six weeks in advance. The request must contain the honoree's name (including Mr., Dr., Miss, Mrs., Ms.) and home address, the exact date of the occasion, number of years of marriage or age, and your name and daytime phone number.
For weddings and births of babies, send the request after the event. You can also receive greetings for Eagle Scout Awards, Girl Scout Gold Awards and Bar or Bat Mitzvahs or equivalent occasions.
Fax your request to (202) 395-1232 or snail mail it to The White House, Attn: Greetings Office, Washington, D. C. 20502-0039. You can also try to e-mail a request from a link on the greetings office Web site, www.whitehouse.gov/contact, but the only greeting we got was an error message. Include all relevant names and addresses, exact dates, ages or years of marriage. For weddings give the couple's married names and current address. For babies tell George the birth date and parents' full names and address.

A: If computers are in working condition, take them to Habitat ReSTORE at 300 W. Tyler St. in Longview. In Tyler, Cedar Street United Methodist Church will take Pentium IIs and newer, regardless of working status. Take them to 1420 N. Church St. any weekday morning between 8 and noon, or Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 6. Call Pastor Karen Morris at (903) 592-4704 if you have any questions.
Call the city's bulk pick-up service at (903) 237-1250 for large appliances. If they are working, take them to Habitat ReSTORE.
Take cell phones and chargers to the Women's Center at 1415 McCann Road. or to the Marine Corps League at 1512 Alpine Road. Phones can be used by women in distress to call 911 even if there is no phone service connected. Q: How do I get on the do not call lists to stop pesky telemarketers?
A: The Texas number is (866) 896-6225, where registration costs a small fee; or, registration is free at www.texasnocall.com. For the free national list, call (888) 382-1222 or go to www.donotcall.gov. Remember, political organizations, charities, telephone surveyors and companies with whom you already have a business relationship do not have to abide by the do not call regulations.
