A four-vehicle wreck between two South Lufkin shopping centers Tuesday afternoon sent one driver to the hospital with facial injuries.
The pile-up occurred just after noon on Tulane Drive as one driver attempted to cross traffic from the Garden District shopping center, near Marble Slab Creamery. The driver plowed into the front driver side of a white Mitizibishi Galant traveling south, causing the car to hit a vehicle stopped at a stop sign and a van turning behind the vehicle.

"I don't know how she was even going across if I was right there," said James Griffin, the driver of the Galant.
An officer at the scene said he believed the woman, who was driving a white Mazda Protege, caused the accident. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for what appeared to be facial injuries, said Lufkin Police Officer Jason Vance. The woman's name was not immediately available.
Griffin, a 19-year-old U.S. Army recruit, said he was on his way to catch a bus leaving for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. His recruiters were traveling in a truck behind him when the wreck occurred.
"I guess you'll have a good excuse for being late," said Staff Sgt. Travis G. Womack.
Officers blocked off the southbound lane off Tulane Drive for approximately 30 minutes as they directed traffic around the wreck until it could be cleared.
