The Marshall City Commission accepted a letter of resignation from Public Works Director Brian Breeding Tuesday morning during a special called meeting.
"I felt like I've been given an opportunity to expand my career," said Breeding. "I'll miss and do appreciate everybody I worked with during my time here. All the employees are great."
Breeding has accepted a position with Southwest Water Company in Houston. His last day with the city of Marshall will be Nov. 20, Breeding said.
Breeding was hired by the city seven years ago and spent four years as the Public Works Department superintendent. He was promoted three years ago to be its director.
"Prior to that I worked for 20 years for the city of Waskom as their director," said Breeding.
Many major projects were completed during Breeding's tenure with the city.
"We completed the water treatment plant and gained compliance with the EPA administrative order from 2000 to take a close look at sanitary sewer improvements," said Breeding.
A Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study was conducted under Breeding and several major sanitary sewer construction projects were completed using "state of the art technology."
"This is an opportunity for advancement and to allow my career to blossom," he said.
