Three men suspected of capital murder plead not guilty to their charges during their formal arraignments Thursday afternoon in Judge William T. Hughey's 71st District Court.

An additional bond amount of $1.5 million was added for the capital murder charge during their arraignments, bringing their individual bond amounts to $3.5 million.

Each of the men is charged with five crimes stemming from a Sept. 20 home invasion in which a man was fatally shot. His wife was sexually assaulted and kidnapped before she could alert authorities. Emergency personnel took her husband to Good Shepherd Medical Center-Marshall, where he later died.

Cortne' Mareese Robinson, 18, of Marshall, Bradney Randal Smith, 22, of Marshall and Travion Dondrell Young, 16, of Karnack all received capital murder indictments on Oct. 27.

Each of them has also been indicted for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery and burglary.

They stood and faced Hughey as he read their indictments.

Robinson, who is being represented by Kevin Settle, was arraigned first. Settle asked the judge to waive readings of other charges, and Robinson plead not guilty to all charges.

Smith was arraigned next. He is being represented by Vernard Solomon, who also requested readings of the other charges be waived. Smith also plead not guilty to all charges.

Young, who was arraigned last, is being represented by Bobby D. Mims. Attorney Jason Castle appeared on behalf of Mims Thursday. Young also plead not guilt to each of the five charges.

At an earlier bond hearing, the three received $500,000 bond amounts for the aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery and burglary charges, totaling $2 million for each suspect.

Judge Hughey set the additional $1.5 million bond for the capital murder charges during their formal arraignments.

"In the capital matters, there have not been bonds set on those," said Hughey. "Bond amounts were set on the others. Set a $1.5 million on these matters."

A gag order was also placed on all of the cases.

"There is no sense in having a gag order for only one in this matter," Hughey said.

The names of the victims are not being released to respect the privacy of the sexual assault victim.

District Attorney Joe Black has said he's hoping to keep "public comment to a minimum" to protect the integrity of the jury pool.
