Longview man charged with theft of property with prior convictions

Gregg County Jail

- Derrick Demond Spearman, 30, of Longview was released from jail Wednesday on $2,500 bond, charged with theft of property of less than $1,500 with two or more prior convictions. According to an arrest report, the store manager at the Walgreens on East Marshall Avenue said Spearman took several items and tried to leave without paying. Spearman has three convictions for theft.

- Tony Ray Cummings, 29, of Longview remained jailed Wednesday on $26,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault on a public servant and failure to identify. According to an arrest report, Cummings was arrested Tuesday in the 1700 block of Eden Drive after a police officer learned he had two warrants for his arrest out of Texarkana, Ark. Cummings also gave the officer a false name, the report said. While being arrested, Cummings kicked the officer in the knee, requiring the officer to be taken to a local hospital for treatment.

- Larry Wayne Bradley, 32, of Kilgore remained jailed Wednesday on $5,000 bond, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. According to an arrest report, a Gregg County investigator on Tuesday stopped a truck pulling a ski boat near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Rice Road. The boat was reported stolen from Camp County. Bradley said he and two friends stole the boat at Lake Bob Sandlin, the report said.

Calls for service

Longview police arrested 13 people Tuesday, including three juveniles. The department dispatched officers to 189 calls for service. The top reasons were:

- Follow up, 15 calls, 7.94 percent

- Assist citizen, 12 calls, 6.35 percent

- Accident, nine calls, 4.76 percent

- Alarm business, nine calls, 4.76 percent
