Longview man remains jailed on multiple charges

Gregg County Jail

- Orlando Rodriguez, 42, of Longview, also known as Lonnie Bassett, remained jailed Tuesday on $16,500 bond, charged with assault on a public servant, attempting to take a weapon from an officer, resisting arrest and public intoxication. According to an arrest report, Rodriguez was arrested Monday at Skinner's Grocery on Judson Road on a public intoxication charge. Rodriguez tried striking an officer, and police attempted to use stun guns on Rodriguez, but the weapons were deployed too close to be effective. Rodriguez grabbed one of the stun guns and turned it as if to use it on an officer, the report said.

- Kendrick Fitzgerald Hill, 27, and Kevin Lee King, 27, both of Longview, remained jailed Tuesday on $10,000 bond each, charged with burglary of a habitation. According to arrest reports, Longview police responded Monday to a residential burglary call in the 1100 block of Maple Street. Witnesses said they saw a man running from the residence with what appeared to be a television or computer before entering a car driven by another man. Police located the vehicle in front of a Harmon Street residence. Two men, Hill and King, were at the residence. During a search of the house, officers found items that had been reported stolen. Hill said he took the items, and King said he drove the vehicle, according to the report.

- Corey Darnell Garrett, 31, of Longview remained jailed Tuesday afternoon on $15,000 bond, charged with indecency with a child. According to an arrest report, Garrett was arrested Monday in the 3400 block of Bronco Street, where a woman said Garrett touched her 13-year-old daughter inappropriately through her clothing. The officer spoke with Garrett, who appeared intoxicated and denied touching the girl, the report said.

Calls for service

Longview police arrested nine people Monday, including two juveniles. The department dispatched officers to 197 calls for service. The top reasons were:

- Follow up, 21 calls, 10.66 percent

- Assist citizen, 16 calls, 8.12 percent

- Alarm business, 10 calls, 5.08 percent
