Lindale’s Lady Eagles high school basketball team won its 10th game in a row Tuesday night over Van, 67-35, but is currently under the guidance of assistant Rene Greenhill after the suspension earlier this week of head coach Greg Strawn.

Strawn, in his sixth year at the helm of the Lady Eagles, was suspended after a meeting with Lindale ISD officials on Monday (Jan. 30).

He said school officials told him the suspension was due to his behavior toward players during games.

Strawn said that it was his understanding “that the decision was final, but I’m waiting to talk with Mr. (Stan) Surratt or whoever. I really don’t know any more than that.’’

He then declined to discuss the situation further.

LISD Superintendent Stan Surratt wouldn’t elaborate on the suspension.

“It’s (LISD) policy not to comment on matters concerning personnel or students,’’ he said.

Strawn remains a computer teacher at Lindale High School.

With the victory over Van, the Lady Eagles improved to 21-8 on the season and 8-0 in District 14-3A.

The Lady Eagles are on their way to their fifth straight postseason appearance with district games remaining against Canton (home, Friday, Feb. 3 beginning with the freshman at 5 p.m.) and at Quinlan Ford on Feb. 7.

Under Strawn, the Lady Eagles are 109-78. He has led the team to four straight playoff appearances as well as 20 wins in each of the past two seasons.

The most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll has Lindale ranked at the No. 17 Class 3A team in the state.

Against Van, the Lady Eagles had little trouble putting the coaching matter out of their heads as they built a 15-7 lead after one period and a 39-15 margin at the half.

Hannah Malone and Natasha Malone each scored 11 points, while Neeley Doss added 9, Kayln Peters scored 7, DiMond Edmond had 7, Paige Murphy scored 6, Symonne Brookins scored 6, MaKaylee Chapman added 6 and Zhanelle Geathers scored 4.
