New in Business: Kiddie Kampus hosting open house Saturday

Sunday, April 27, 2008

The finishing touches have been made to a new northwest Longview child care center and its owners are ready to show it off, according to Christi Tittle.

Tittle, who owns Kiddie Kampus Learning Academy along with her husband, Chris Tittle, said she will also be the on-site director of the 125-child facility. The facility will host a grand opening and open house Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Kiddie Kampus is taking registering youngsters 6 months to 10 years old for child care and an after school program, she said.

"We'll have a low student to teacher ratio," Tittle said. "We think it's important for the teachers to spend one-on-one time with the students.

Tittle said Spring Hill Independent School District buses will stop at Kiddie Kampus for either pickup of children in the morning or drop off in the afternoon for the after school program.

"Our staff is just great — they really want to be here for the kids," Tittle said of the 17 full-time and part-workers who will help operate Kiddie Kampus.

Located at 3902 Gilmer Road, the octagon shaped building has a commercial-grade kitchen, where hot lunches and snacks will be prepared. The kitchen is in the center of the building with eight classroomsfor different age groups forming the perimeter of the structure, Tittle said.

Tittle said each classroom has its own restroom facility and emergency exit to the outside, she said.

The owner/director said she has worked in education and child care in the past. Opening Kiddie Kampus will represent her first venture into being a business owner.

"We'll be using a Christian-based curriculum," she said. "And we'll have a phenomenal playground."

The playground area includes a replica of a small town, a separate area for infants and a basketball court, she said.

Reich Builders of Longview was the contractor for construction on the 6,300-square-foot structure. Tittle said the building sits on a 2-acre tract that could allow for expansion.
