Police beat: Gladewater woman jailed on drug charge

■ Deborah Rena Thomas, 55, of Gladewater, remained jailed Wednesday under $5,000 bond on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Thomas was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday by Longview police at the intersection of Mobberly and Pacific Avenue when police responded to a car wreck. Thomas was one of the victims in the car. According to arrest records, there was a pipe in plain site and during a vehicle search the police officer found two additional crack pipes, two lighters, a push rod, a chore boy formed into crack pipe filters, 1.2 grams of crack cocaine and other drug paraphernalia.
■ Sonya Dews, 40, of Longview, remained jailed Wednesday under $2,500 bond on a charge of theft with two previous convictions. Dews was arrested at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday by Longview police at Kroger. According to arrest records, Dews was seen placing items in her pants and leaving the store. The items total value was $29.98.

Longview police arrested seven adults and one juvenile. The department dispatched officers to 228 calls for service.
