Fauver, Medina honoredby FSSW as defensiveplayers of the week

West Rusk defensive back Johnny Fauver and Big Sandy linebacker Austin Medina were honored Friday as Fox Sports Southwest released its first Defensive Player of the Week list for the 2010 football season.
The new award is a joint effort by Fox Sports Southwest, Right Guard and Walmart. High schools for the five weekly award winners will be presented a $500 donation and trophy from Right Guard in recognition of the player's performance.
This week's winners included:
■ Class 2A: Fauver, who had 13 tackles and returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown in West Rusk's 52-36 win over Redwater. Fauver was also the Longview News-Journal's defensive player of the week.
■ Class A: Medina, who had 14 tackles, four tackles for losses, two sacks and a fumble recovery in a win over Boles.
■ Class 5A: San Antonio Warren linebacker Jai Smith, who had 25 tackle and a key fumble recovery in the red zone in a 14-13 win over San Antonio Southwest.
■ Class 4A: Lake Travis linebacker Austin Williams, who had 11 tackles, three pass deflections and a 33-yard interception return late in the game to help Lake Travis beat Austin Westlake and extend its winning streak to 47 games - longest in the state.
■ Class 3A: Silsbee linebacker Tommie Barrett, who had nine tackles and two interceptions - returning one for a touchdown - in Silsbee's 40-9 win over Houston Waltrip.
The winning players also will be featured on FOX Sports Southwest's High School Scoreboard Live highlight show each Friday at midnight (replayed Saturday at 9 a.m.).
