A 60-year-old Kilgore man was killed and a Longview man injured in a chain reaction of crashes that left westbound Interstate 20 blocked for nearly 12 hours Monday.

Randy Arthur Bradley, 60, of Kilgore was pronounced dead at 3:04 a.m. Monday at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike Smith, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a report issued Monday evening.

Agie Cook, 47, a truck driver from Longview, was injured in the pileup near Hallsville of two tractor-trailer trucks and a pickup. He was in stable condition with bruises at a Longview hospital Monday evening, DPS said.

The interstate tie-up began just before 2:30 a.m., Harrison County authorities said Monday morning, when a pair of eastbound tractor-trailers collided and veered into the westbound lanes of I-20, where they came to rest. Bradley, who was westbound in a 1996 Mazda pickup, slammed into one of the trucks at mile marker 602.

The truck driven by Cook was carrying hazardous chemicals. Crews spent hours cleaning up the spill caused when the truck rolled onto its side and was hit by Bradley's pickup.

The other tractor-trailer, which was hauling automobiles, remained upright.

For nearly 12 hours after the crash, westbound traffic was diverted off the interstate and around the crash site via exit 604 to Hallsville as the investigation and cleanup were completed.

Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane to make room for emergency vehicles to come and go from the crash site.

DPS did not identify the driver of the other truck or say whether charges were pending.
