4-year-old dies in ATV accident

Dec. 15, 2011 at 11:08 a.m.

A 4-year-old girl died as the result of a four-wheeler accident this morning on County Road 3669 just north of Queen City.

Victoria Deckart of Queen City was a passenger on a 2010 Polaris ATV which was driven by a 15-year-old girl.

The teenager tried to avoid a dog in the road, but failed, causing her to lose control of the ATV. According to preliminary reports, the ATV left the road and went into the woods. A small tree caught the right rear fender of the ATV, bringing it to an abrupt stop. Both girls were thrown from the ATV, but Victoria's injuries were fatal.

The accident occurred at 11:15 a.m.

Victoria was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 a.m. by Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Micki Henderson.

The teenager was taken to a Texarkana hospital for treatment of a broken leg.

The girls were not wearing helmets.

Trooper Shane Lawrence is investigating the accident.
